The Mechanical License Collective (MLC) is a group that makes sure songwriters and music publishers get paid when their songs are streamed or downloaded in the U.S. They collect money in the form of mechanical royalties from music services like Spotify or Apple Music and send it to the people who wrote or own the songs. They also keep a public database of songs so creators can see if their music is being tracked and paid correctly.
